Erika in Black

Producing portraits with Erika is always such a treat. And like all of the most creative moments, it's done in a blink: she finds the light and the camera, I hit the shutter, and before either of us quite realize we've done anything at all, we're 36 exposures in and the film is rewinding.

We chose analog film for this set—35mm Kodak Portra 160—as a great way to capture Erika's vision for gentle, natural, off-the-cuff style with a slightly vintage twist. And while we both loved the results (Kodak Portra 160 is my very favorite film stock), I can affirm that shooting film with somoene who hits engaging moments as readily as Erika is a dangerous proposition: there's no way to stop at just a few rolls!
